Unique work
Created during live figure drawing sessions at the Art Academy in Split, this large-scale charcoal drawing is based entirely on direct observation from a live model. The work is executed through a restrained linear approach, relying on proportion, gesture, and spatial rhythm rather than dense tonal rendering.
The composition is constructed with a high degree of openness, allowing the figure to emerge through minimal but deliberate marks. The seated pose, upward gaze, and elongated vertical structure create a strong sense of tension and balance within the composition, while the untreated negative space reinforces the immediacy of the live study process.
Executed on warm-toned kraft paper, the drawing incorporates the surface itself into the tonal character of the work. The combination of large scale, reduced line work, and exposed paper gives the piece a distinctly contemporary presence while remaining grounded in academic figurative tradition.
The artwork was produced in 2017 and minor traces of age, including subtle discolouration and light surface irregularities, are consistent with the natural characteristics of kraft paper over time. The charcoal has been fixed for preservation and the work remains stable.
