Unique work
Created during live figure drawing sessions at the Art Academy in Split, this large-scale charcoal drawing is based entirely on direct observation from a live model. The work employs a restrained academic approach, using selective contour, tonal reduction, and spatial balance to establish the physical presence of the figure.
The seated composition is constructed through elongated line movement and controlled areas of emphasis, allowing the drawing to retain both immediacy and structural clarity. The openness of the lower section of the composition reinforces the sense of weight and stillness within the pose, while the economy of mark-making preserves the directness characteristic of live study.
Executed on warm-toned kraft paper, the surface functions as an integral part of the tonal composition, softening transitions and enhancing the material quality of the charcoal. The large vertical format gives the work a strong architectural presence suitable for both contemporary interiors and figurative art collections.
The artwork was produced in 2017 and minor traces of age, including subtle discolouration and light surface irregularities, are consistent with the natural characteristics of kraft paper over time. The charcoal has been fixed for preservation and the work remains stable.
